Welcome to Wayfaring Wolves
Dog Bandanas - Handmade with *Dog* Love
The Wayfaring Wolves Story
These dog bandanas are all handmade with lots of dog love! Inspired by my joyful dog, Rieka, I started sewing bandanas for her back in 2019 so she could show off her unique personality and look sharp for every season and holiday. I bought my first sewing machine, determined to make her something myself - and taught myself to sew through a lot of trial and error along the way. After trying multiple different styles of bandanas, I landed on a classic, square design with a hand-rolled hem, because it stayed put, didn't flip during play, and just had a classic vibe.
One bandana turned into a whole collection, and that collection turned into Wayfaring Wolves. I officially opened my Etsy shop in February 2020 - with absolutely no idea what that year had in store. My plan was for it to be a fun side hustle, something to work on between seasonal jobs in Alaska and remote work back home in Michigan. Then, well, we all know the story of 2020. My job in Alaska fell through so I stayed settled in Michigan, and suddenly I had all the time in the world to pour into Wayfaring Wolves. By the end of the year, the shop had gained real traction, and it started to feel like something bigger than I'd ever intended.
Several years and a lot of ups and downs later - literal blood (multiple needle stabbings and rotary blade slices), sweat (sewing by generator during a power outage in 100-degree heat), and tears (bad reviews, slow seasons) - what started as a small idea has grown into a full-time job. Today, the shop is full of hundreds of prints, made for dogs of every size, style, and personality. Every bandana still starts the same way it always has: measured, cut, and sewn by hand, one at a time. There's no way to speed up that process, and I've never wanted to change the square style, even though it takes longer and demands more precision. To this day, Wayfaring Wolves is a one-woman show. I handle every part of it myself - sourcing fabric, ironing, cutting, sewing, packaging, shipping, customer service, social media. No factories, no team, just me and a whole lot of dog love.
The next phase of Wayfaring Wolves emerged in 2026, after I had to step away from the shop for an extended leave of absence to attend to a family medical matter. Even during that time, I kept sewing - preparing for a handful of local summer markets back home in Michigan. By the time I resurfaced, I had a bigger inventory of premade bandanas than I'd ever carried before. I'd always wanted a website of my own, but I've stuck with Etsy because of how naturally customers find handmade shops there through search. That stockpile of ready-to-ship bandanas turned out to be the perfect excuse to finally build a website! Eventually, I want to offer both ready-to-ship and made-to-order bandanas here, but for now, I will keep the two separate.
What keeps me going isn't just the sewing, it's the dogs and their humans. Getting to see your dogs wearing something made just for them, and connecting with the humans who love them as much as I love mine, is the whole reason this shop exists. Every tagged photo and message from a customer reminds me why I started this in the first place - it's not just about the bandana, it's about the dog wearing it and the person who picked it out for them. When I'm not filling orders, I'm hunting down new fabrics - fun, vibrant, a little unexpected - to keep things fresh, so check back often for what's new.
Meet Allison & Rieka Anne
I'm Allison - the one-woman show around here! Michigan born and raised, with a few detours along the way. I have a bachelor's degree in photography, and I've lived in Washington and Alaska before making my way back home. These days, I split my time between running Wayfaring Wolves and working part-time remotely for Pacific Alpine Guides, a climbing and ski guide service based in Washington - so between sewing bandanas and coordinating mountain trips, dogs and adventure are basically my whole life. Rieka is my inspiration and daily joy. She's what sparked this whole idea and I am so grateful to have her by my side every day.
